Verification and Validation
After images are recognized they may contain some uncertainly recognized symbols that should be verified by an operator before exporting the data.
Verification is the only stage of forms processing, where the throughput of the whole system depends on operators' productivity. That is why we paid special attention to verification interface and functionality. We provided several tools and techniques to be used separately or in combination to make the processing efficient.
Verification methods for different fields of a form are determined at the stage of template designing. By changing template settings and adding validation rules you can fine-tune the verification process to minimize human efforts and solve specific tasks. The three-step verification technology implemented in ABBYY FormReader (group, context and in-form modes) provides enough flexibility for helping you to build the most efficient forms processing system.
For example, you can apply group verification to all fields containing digits, and fragment verification to text fields. Group verification allows an operator to find incorrectly recognized symbols among correct ones.
During context verification you can see the image of the character and the recognition result nearby displayed on the same screen. Uncertainly recognized characters are highlighted. You don't need to strain your eyes to compare them. Also the part of the original image can be displayed in case you need to have a look at the surrounding context.
You can use rules to eliminate the verification of fields that are definitely correct. For each field you can specify how tolerant ABBYY FormReader shall be in marking uncertainly recognized characters. Or you can use these rules to check the validity of the entered data automatically. For example, the data may be checked against a database or user-defined dictionary, also you can perform date, currency and character-specific formatting validations, etc.
In addition to predefined types of rules (there are 16 of them now), you can create your own rules using VBA. ABBYY FormReader supports a large number of features - just start using the product and you will be surprised with the capabilities it provides.
