Features and Functions
Input
- Document Input Folders
Recognition Server offers two options for adding documents to the workflow. Documents can be transferred from a client computer, or direct from a neworked scanner or multifunctional device (MFP) to either a shared folder or FTP folder.
- Workflow Scheduling and «Watch Folders»
Processing can be performed according to a pre-determined schedule, or «Instantly» on certain «watched» folders as soon as new images are added. Options for selecting time, start and end date, and ongoing scheduled tasks such as weekly or monthly so that jobs can be set to run overnight, or during peak-off hours for maximum efficiency.
- Workflow Priority
Administrators can assign priorities to their processing profile.
- Image Input Formats
Supports popular formats such as BMP, PCX, TIF or PDF (including image-only PDF).
Output
Multiple Document Output Formats include DOC, PDF, RTF, XML, HTML, DBF, XLS etc. Can be set up to create multiple document output formats for a single process ( e.g. convert image-only PDFs to searchable PDF and XML files in a single pass).

ABBYY Recognition Server is based on the acclaimed ABBYY FineReader Engine, the Recognition Server ensures the best possible recognition (OCR) accuracy and conversion quality. OCR includes recognition of normal text, typewriter, dot-matrix, OCR-A, OCR-B, and MICR (E13b).
- Multi-lingual Recognition
Recignition Server reads 185 languages. It also delivers almost the same high accuracy processing multilingual documents in comparison to single-lingual document.With FineReader XIX included, the program recognizes old European documents and books printed from 1700 to 1937 in English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. It may recognize texts printed by Fraktur, Schwabacher and the majority of Gothic fonts.
- PDF Conversion
- PDF input – converts a variety of PDF files, including image-only PDF to searchable and editable formats.
- PDF output – converts images (and image-only PDFs) to searchable PDF files; and support linearized, tagged, and secure PDF outputs. Supports native PDF encryption – 40-bit and 128 bit AES.
- Barcode Recognition
Reads the most popular 1D and 2D barcodes and provides the ability to find and recognize barcodes at any angle on a document.
- Multiple Document Input/Output Formats Support
Ability to convert a variety of input image formats to a multitude of searchable/editable output formats. The system can also be set up to create multiple document output formats for a single process. For example, users can convert image-only PDF files to searchable PDF, XML, and RTF files in one single pass.
- Speed Control
Ability to select from thorough recognition mode and fast mode.
- Advanced Processing and Image Pre-processing. Selection of automatic functions such as split dual pages (for book scans), convert colour and grey to black and white, clear background noise, and image deskew and despeckle
Error Handling
- Quality Control
Ability to set quality threshold based on confidence level and the percentage of uncertain characters per page allowed.
- Job Cancellation
Sets a timeout for automatic cancellation of a job.
- Processing Recovery
Auto-restarts the Processing station if it experiences failure and in the mean time, reroutes jobs to other available stations or routes back to the same station after it restarts.
- Exception Folder
Ability to re-process suspicious images and re-process job if the number of uncertain characters is above than critical
Administration Features

- Open, COM-based Application Programming Interface (API) - allows seamlessly integrate Recognition Server processing into an external workflow. In such a way users could call and manipulate document conversion and recognition functionality from any enterprise content management (ECM), electronic records management (ERM) or document management systems (DMS).
- XML-Ticket Support – ability to manipulate processing parameters. Client side or third party applications can be created to enable instant management of processing using XML-tickets.
